Unleash Your Inner SHE on October 14th
If you’re looking for the perfect fall 10k or 5k race, look no further than The Mayo Clinic Unleash the SHE races on October 14th, 2018 in St. Paul. With a great race location, co-ed event, and a sweet registration referral option, we think you’ll quickly see what makes this charity event so great.
We’ve written praises for Unleash the SHE races in the past, including our own realization that SHE doesn’t stand for female (though female-powered this event is!) but is an acronym for Strength, Health, and Empowerment. I love this idea and can easily get behind any event that encourages the best from people, but there are even more things that make it great, most notably the fact that it is a charity event!
I personally love a good charity race. Few things feel as good as dutifully training for weeks on end, running hard during a race, and finishing strong knowing that I’m doing something good for my greater community. If you’re new to charity races, the concept is simple: just show up and run like any other race! Part of your registration benefits a non-profit organization (in this case, the Minnesota Ovarian Cancer Alliance), so there’s no extra fundraising necessary (though you can raise more, if you wish!) It’s the perfect way to give back by doing something that you love.
Below are my favorite reasons to find your inner SHE on Saturday, October 14th:
1. Woman Power
Over 1,000 women participate in the two race distances, making the Unleash the SHE 5k and 10k one of the largest and fastest growing women-only events in the state! The camaraderie and energy that you’ll feel from being surrounded by so many like-minded, powerful women is out of this world!
2. Benefit Cancer Research
$5 from each registration fee benefits the Minnesota Ovarian Cancer Alliance (MOCA), a statewide non-profit organization dedicated to raising awareness, providing support, and funding ovarian cancer research. Participants of Unleash the SHE also have the option to raise even money for MOCA by creating a fundraising page. Why ovarian cancer? This year alone, more than 400 Minnesota women will be diagnosed with ovarian cancer, the deadliest of all gynecologic cancers.
3. Co-ed 5k Walk
Men and women are both invited to join in and show their support in a co-ed, untimed Support the SHE 5K walk. This is a fun way to involve the entire family!
4. Beautiful St. Paul Course
This year Unleash the SHE is returning to Phalen Park in St. Paul. Lake Phalen is a popular route known for its beautiful 3-mile paved loop. If you’ve previously skipped this lake for the more popular Minneapolis sailing lakes or river routes, Lake Phalen will not disappoint!
5. Registration Referral for Friends & Family
Another great event feature is the friends and family referral program. After registering, you’ll receive a unique code that can be given to family and friends to earn you $5 back for every registration. Now that’s a sweet deal!
See what I mean? The Mayo Clinic Unleash the SHE 5k and 10k are stellar events, don’t miss your chance to run the best charity event this side of the Mississippi! Women can register to walk or run on the event website here. Online registration closes on Saturday, Oct. 13, with day-of registration available only if the race has not sold out.
And in case you need a little more convincing, the Mayo Clinic Unleash the SHE is not without awesome race swag. All participants will receive a long-sleeved teal technical shirt (teal being the ovarian cancer awareness color), race medal, post-race refreshments, and a chance to win door prizes. There will also be awards given to overall and age group winners.
